We are hoping you will be able to join us for the TASA conference in McAllen, TX, October 25-27, 2018, as well as enjoying the Dia de los Muertos festivities in McAllen. The conference will also include workshops on the South Texas College campus, papers and panels, and an excursion to see the Border Wall at the Hidalgo Pump House.
The official conference hotel is the Casa de Palmas Renaissance Hotel (956-631-1101). Hotel Reservation Deadline Date: Sept. 25, and the room rate is $94.00 plus 15% state and local taxes, single or double room, per night). Use this link for Hotel Reservations at the Conference Rate.
Conference Early Registration Deadline: OCTOBER 5 after this date conference fees increase.
To pay by check, download the TASA 2018 Conference Registration Auto-Fill Form (PDF) and mail with payment (check made out to TASA) and mail to the address listed at the bottom of the form. If your institutional membership check is “in the mail,” and you want to avoid the Institutional Representative Conference Late fee, be sure to EMAIL this form as an attachment after filling it out (see below) BEFORE or on OCTOBER 5.

This is especially important if you will be attending the conference as your school’s Institutional Representative and want to avoid the late fee that might result if your school has renewed its Institutional membership but did not let me know you were coming as your school’s Institutional Representative by the pre-registration deadline. Simply say: “Inst Rep” as your conference fee status with Institutional Membership as “PD.” And be sure to also say if you will be attending the Saturday night Banquet and if you need a veggie meal (helps with plate count). Through my years of multi-disciplinary practice, I’ve managed to keep pace with the rapidly changing socio-political debates around the world and their relative expansive influences on human conditions. Immigration, borders and cultural communications are today’s most fundamental discourses which are immensely interwoven with notions of identity, belonging and inhabitation. Therefore, art could be an intermediary language shared between individuals, nations and cultures, addressing these issues by touching the innermost layers of personality.
I’ve utilized different aesthetic strategies by experimenting with materials with wide ranges of relevant applications to my subject matters such as ceramics, poetry, ambient sound and video, with a focus on representations of the ways I have negotiated and accessed concepts of heritage, place of origin, orientation and cultural adaptability. My multimedia installations root deeply in my cultural background and acquired new identity as an immigrant; aiming to challenge the viewer’s standard point of view and personal perspectives. These interactive pieces invite the onlooker to delve into my own personal recollections of sense, sound and place; mementos of my journeys across the national and international borders.
